The Adolescent Class provides education for the young people who are in-patients of Thorneywood Adolescent Unit (a part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services – CAMHS). We work with up to thirteen students ranging in age from 12-18, covering Key Stages 3, 4 and post-16. We work very closely with the students’ schools, aiming to keep them up to date with their own work as far as possible.
We try to cover all subjects that the young people are studying, using specialist teachers, email and telephone support from their mainstream teachers. We also encourage young people to take part in our ‘enhanced curriculum’ activities, including animation group, drumming, gardening, cooking, outdoor education and off site trips. The aim is to enable the students to develop a good work/life balance, encouraging them to enjoy learning and develop interests.
As a host examination centre, young people can sit their GCSE and A-level exams here, if unable to attend their own schools/colleges.
